Towns tend to grow where roads cross rivers, and La Grange is exactly that. It sits where the old La Bahia Road, an Indian trail before the Spanish ever used it, forded the Colorado River, and by 1831 a settlement had gathered around John Henry Moore's fort at the crossing.
